Eagles will rely on ground game in Section 2 race.
2009 Recap: Cocalico road the L-L League's top-ranked offense (391 yds/gm) to a 9-3 record (5-2 in Section 2) and a trip to the second round of Districts.
2010 Outlook: Senior guard/defensive tackle Ben Brugger (2009 Section 2 Defensive Lineman of the Year) leads a strong group of experienced linemen. That base should put the Eagles right in the middle of the Section 2 race.
Key Player Lost: Quarterback Matt Carty was a three-year starter in the middle of the Cocalico offense. Ryan Schweitzer has the inside track for the starting spot after filling in for Carty last year. But he will be pushed by freshman Spencer Moser.
Key Returner: Senior fullback Austin Hartman is coming off back-to-back 1,500-plus-yard seasons. He will be the main man again on the offensive side of the ball and will get to return some hits in 2010, becoming a full-time starter at linebacker.
Games on Cable-11: September 10 at Ephrata; September 24 vs. Manheim Central; November 5 vs. Solanco.
Quotable: Coach Dave Gingrich and Brugger discuss the Cocalico defense...
