Shelley Gets Board Approval

The Ephrata School Board voting "yes" to Scott Shelley becoming the new football coach.

The Ephrata School Board officially handing over the reigns to Scott Shelley on Monday night, to become Ephrata's new football coach.

Shelley, an Ephrata high school grad, will help his alma-mater shift from section one to section two this season. He has spent years coaching special teams, defensive backs, and wideouts at Ephrata. As well as a stint as a defensive coordinator under Phil Kauffman at Cocalico. Now the two will reverse their roles, and Kauffman will now coordinate the offense for Shelley at Ephrata.

Shelley succeeds Jim Vieland. Vieland resigned from the post earlier this season, and is not an assistant coach at Franklin and Marshall College.

Cocalico's Kam Mueller and Warwick's Tom Devenney are the "Athletes of the Week" after qualifying for States.

District 3 wrestling dominated this past weekend's headlines, with local mat men having exceptional runs through their brackets. Cocalico's Kam Mueller and Warwick's Tom Devenney, both headed to the PIAA state tournament.

Mueller earning runner-up honors at 182 pounds, his signature win an upset over previously undefeated Dylan Hickernell in the semifinals.

Devenney takes down Wilson's Dierolf

Meanwhile, in the heavyweight bracket, Tom Devenney wrestling back through consolations to finish in 3rd place and claim that last precious spot in the state tourney.


Both Devenney and Mueller will hit the mats for the state tournament on March 8th at Hershey.

District 3 Wrestling Championship Saturday [VIDEO]

Quite a few L-L league wrestlers involved in the championship finals last Saturday evening.

Manheim Township's Cortlandt Schuyler, Cocalico's Kam Mueller and Solanco's Connor Moran and Thomas Haines all in action in the final matches.

All finalists earned a berth in the PIAA state tournament.

Warwick's Tom Devenney wrestled back through the 285 pound consolation bracket to claim 3rd place and his own spot in the state tourney.

Milligan Reaches Dip Milestone

F & M's Milligan breaks James McNally's record to become the new Diplomats' all time leading scorer. 

Franklin and Marshall's point guard, Georgio Milligan, is now in the Diplomat record books. The senior scored 26 points in the Dips' last win over Dickinson to make him F & M's all time leading scorer with 1,807 points- breaking James McNally's old mark of 1,796 points.

Millgan Dunks against Ursinus

Milligan this season also becoming the first player in CC history to earn First Team All-CC honors four times; and the third player in F&M history, and fifth player in CC history, to earn back-to-back Player of the Year awards.


Milligan also a jokester off the court.

Two Garden Spot Seniors Commit

Ryan Connell to Clarion; Rob Barrett to Bloomsburg

Two Spartan football players recently made their college decisions. Defensive back and late-season running back replacement Ryan Connell heads to Clarion, who went 3-8 last fall.

Connell was voted L-L league Section 2 First Team at defensive back.

Rob Barrett will join him in the PSAC conference after committing to Bloomsburg. The offensive lineman was a key factor in Garden Spot's improvement this year, protecting QB John Armbrust and making tons of key blocks.

The 6'3, 300 pounder was voted AAA Second Team All-State on the offensive line by the Pennsylvania Football News.

Athlete of the Week: Aerika High

 Manheim Central's Aerika High is the "Athlete of the Week" after rolling to league singles gold.

Manheim Central's Aerika High winning the L-L League singles bowling championships in convincing fashion.  High steam rolling her way past four bowlers in the step ladder finals.

She survived four straight one on one matches, even rolling a near perfect game. High defeated Warwick's Bryanna Nihoff 225-171,Ephrata's Keith Sholly 258-256, and Penn Manor's Will Welsh 278-211 to reach the finals, where she squeaked out the win against number one seed, Pequea Valley's Eric Erb.

 Next up for High, the District 3 Singles Championships this weekend.

Highlights from the Hempfield Wrestling Sectional Tournament

The majority of L-L matmen were in action this past Saturday in Landisville, hoping to qualify for the District 3 tournament.

What a night for some of our local wrestlers at the Hempfield meet. Ephrata's 145 pounder Mike Lammer took the title, as did Warwick teammates Cody Shoenberger at 160 and Tommy Devenney at 285. Highlights below:

McCaskey Defeats Lancaster Catholic for L-L Title

The Red Tornado take down their city rivals Lancaster Catholic 71-57 in the L-L championship game.

Riveting game on Saturday, as the rivalry was renewed between McCaskey and Lancaster Catholic. The game was back-and-forth until the second half, when the Red Tornado pulled away for the comfortable 14 point win. The Catholic backcourt certainly came to play: Bryan Rivera dropped 25 points, while Eric Goldbach chipped in 17. Check out the highlights below:

Lancaster Catholic Girls Win L-L Title

The Crusaders claim the title after a big 55-33 win over Lancaster Mennonite.

Just two days after claiming his 700th victory, Lancaster Catholic coach Lamar Kauffman lead his Crusaders to league gold once again. It's his 10th title at the school. Guards Porcha Speller and Danielle Atkinson outpaced Jess Rheinheimer and the Lancaster Mennonite Blazers.

The game one for the history books: it was the only time two Section 4 teams have played for the L-L title. Check out the highlights and postgame reaction below:

Lamar Kauffman 700th Win Reaction

Lancaster Catholic head coach Lamar Kauffman and his team react to his historic 700th win.

On Wednesday night, Lamar Kauffman did something no L-L coach had ever done... win 700 games in his career. The win over Manheim Township gave him the milestone, but he prefers to give the credit to his girls and how hard they work.

L-L Bowling Team Championship Finals

Penn Manor wins title over Garden Spot in finals.

The L-L Bowling Championships continued today, with eight teams battling for first place. Section 2 champion Garden Spot took down Manheim Central in the quarterfinals on their way to the final match against Penn Manor, where the Comets won a hard-fought 3 game match.

Section 3 winner Lancaster Catholic was eliminated in the semifinals.

Lancaster Catholic's Juliano and Sweigart Commit

Center Anthony Juliano chooses Gettysburg College... while teammate Charles Sweigart signs with Juniata College.

Crusaders center Anthony Juliano, the anchor of the offensive line, heads to Gettysburg College. The 6'2, 250 pounder joins the Bullets after a campaign in which they finished 6-4. He'll join another local athlete on the team: Cocalico grad Jon Smoker, who is currently on the squad as a running back.

Juliano was named to the L-L League's section 3 all-star first team at center.

Charles Sweigart has signed with Juniata College after logging an impressive season at both defensive back and wide receiver. He earned a slew of postseason awards, including Double A First Team All State defensive specialist and Double A Third Team All State at wideout.

Juniata finished off a rough season last year (1-9 overall) as they look to turn things around in the fall.

NY Giants Sign Lancaster Catholic Grad

Lancaster Catholic Grad, Ryan Purvis, signs with the New York Giants.

Former Lancaster Catholic football standout, Ryan Purvis has a new NFL home. Purvis signed a reserve/future contract with the Superbowl Champs, the New York Giants.

After playing college ball at Boston College, Purvis had a stint at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY — The New York Giants have signed veteran guard Chris White and two other players to reserve/future contracts. Also added to the roster were defensive end Craig Marshall, who was briefly a member of the Giants’ practice squad last season, and former Tampa Bay tight end Ryan Purvis. White has played in 33 games during his seven-year NFL career, including eight starts for the Houston Texans in 2009. He’s also played for the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers, and was in the Giants’ training camp last summer. Purvis played five games with the Buccaneers during the 2010 season, making five catches for 28 yards. Marshall, a former teammate of Giants star Jason Pierre-Paul at South Florida, also was in Giants training camp last summer.

Hollister Commits to Shippensburg

State Champions, Lancaster Catholic, sending another senior to play football at the collegiate level. Running back and linebacker, Brandon Hollister choosing Shippensburg University as his next stop.

The Red Raiders coming off a 7-4 season, will now gain the services of one of the best athletes in the state. Hollister rushing for over 1500 yards and 26 touchdowns in his senior campaign.

But his talents are also used on the other side of the ball. On defense, he was named the L-L League linebacker of the year in Section 3, also making first team All-State in "AA" as an all round athlete.

3 Men's Sports Teams Eliminated at Millersville University

Millersville cuts its men's track and field team and men's cross country team. 

Millersville University cuts three sports after citing financial challenges, Tuesday.

The men's cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field programs will be eliminated, affecting around 30 students.

"This direction was made after careful deliberation when trying to concentrate diminishing budget dollars," said Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Aminta Breaux. "The university cannot sustain intercollegiate teams and be responsive to growing needs that affect all student-athletes."

School officials say this move will save around $200,000; with that money being spread out throughout the other remaining sports. Officials also say scolarships will continue to be honored or the school will work with students that wish to transfer.

The women's team for all three teams will continue at the university.

L-L All Stars Boys Basketball Team Announced

The rosters for the L-L All Star boys basketball team released.

The Lancaster Lebanon League's seniors will hit the hardwood one more time, before they hang up their high tops for good, in the league's all star game at the end of the month.

The all star game features a team made up of section one and section two stars taking on a team made up of section three and four. There will also be a 3 point shooting competition at halftime featuring eight of the league's sharp shooters.

The All Star game will be played on March 28th at Hempfield at 7PM.

Athlete of the Week: Emily Cameron

Warwick swimmer Emily Cameron named Athlete of the Week after winning 4 gold medals and breaking two meet records at the L-L swimming championships.

Emily Cameron on her way to win the 200 freestyle.

Cameron claimed gold in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay, the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, breaking meet records in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle.

Her win in the 100 backstroke was doubly impressive, as she had never competed in that race in the L-L meet before.

She'll be back in the pool on March 2nd at the District 3 swimming championships.

LMH's "Dynamic" D Probst

D Probst continues to embrace life as a basketball player; even after her first love, volleyball, was taken away from her due to health concerns. 

Lancaster Mennonite's D Probst is the prime example of someone embracing life. Probst overcoming a tragic car accident to become a standout student athlete. The senior once told she wouldn't be able to walk, now runs the floor for the Blazers, but some days not without difficulty.

Probst had to give up her first love, volleyball, after suffering six concussions and severe  back pains. And then last summer, the forward had to overcome one more obstacle; moving to a new school for her senior year.

But as you will see in the video, Probst is a girl you would never bet against.

Lancaster Mennonite Boys Soccer Honored

Lancaster Mennonite's receives a letter of commendation by the Board of the County Commissioners.


Lancaster Mennonite's boys soccer team continues to have a season to remember. The Blazers received a letter of commendation by the Board of County Commissioners of Lancaster City. The honor was given to the team after LMH won its first state title in program history this past fall season.

Manheim's Sweetheart: Olivia Stone

Lady Barons' Manager, Olivia Stone, defies the odds everyday; inspiring a whole community. 

The Manheim Central Girls Basketball team is fighting to win its playoff berth, and the Lady Barons have a special member to help in the campaign. She isn't on the roster, but anyone who goes to a Central home game spots her. Olivia Stone is the Lady Barons' manager. She not only offers water and towels to the girls, she also offers inspiration.

Stone born with a birth defect, but the nine year old does not let that define her. She is a student athlete who has speed, rhythm, and spirit. She not only won the MVP award at a summer basketball camp, but she is also training for a cheerleading national competition.

Ephrata Football Set to Hire New Coach

Eprhata School Board will vote to name Scott Shelley the new Ephrata football coach.

The campaign for a new football coach at Ephrata high school might be over. Today, Ephrata's Athletic Director, Tommy Long,  confirming Ephrata grad. Scott Shelley is the new coach, pending a school board vote.

Shelley is an Ephrata grad and a former defensive coordinator under Phil Kauffman at Cocalico.  He would replace Jim Vieland, who resigned at the end of last season.

The school board will vote on the matter on February 27.

Next season the Mounts will move down to Section 2.

Conestoga Valley Signing Day

Conestoga Valley holding their signing day today, with two Bucks inking their future. 


CV seniors Jesse Brior and Lauren Pezzica signing their letters of intent accepting scolarships at California University (PA).

They both plan to study Graphic Design at Cal.

Lammer Twins: Defying the Odds

Two Ephrata wrestlers battle the odds to hit the mats everyday. 


Ephrata wrestlers, Chad and Mike Lammer are quite the double threat. Chad, a runner up in this year's Wrestling League Championships, while Mike leads his team in takedowns so far this season.

And they both do it overcoming challenges. Both brothers told they might never get to wrestle; Chad with a corneal transplant at the age of four, and Mike diagnosed with Type I diabetes at 11.

But as you can see these boys wrestle, and are pretty good at it. Take a look:

Jordan Page Named into USA U19 Squad

Former Cocalico field hockey star is named once again to the USA U-19 Squad. 


Jordan Page continues to put Denver on the map. The former L-L League field hockey star has been picked for the United States Under 19 squad.  Page will play for the USA in a series of games against the Canadian National Team the first week of April.

The college freshman currently practices her trade at Big East power, Syracuse University. Page helped her team grab the Big East title, finishing the season with the Orange grabbing five goals and four assists.

Crusaders Commended

Lancaster Catholic receives a letter of commendation by the Board of the County Commissioners. 

Seems like the awards never stop rolling in for the PIAA "AA" Football State Champion, Lancaster Catholic. The Crusaders today accepting a letter of commendation by the Board of County Commissioners of Lancaster County.
